Why can't everyone renew their registration online?
Sometimes you need to share certain documents with DMV, such as insurance card. In this case you will not be able to renew online because DMV need to have that information on file in order to process your renewal online. Insurance companies in California are required by law, (California Vehicle Code CVC 209-537-7782 to electronically report private use vehicle insurance information to DMV. Insurance companies are exempt from electronically reporting insurance information for vehicles covered by commercial or business insurance policies.
